Daily Intake 23.03.11

⚫ Hen Zemi episode 2 is out. Check out some screencaps from a Japanese blogger here. This anime is an OVA based on a manga about strange love/eroticism as told from the perspective if a study group led by a crazy professor who are researching sexual perversions. The anime is interesting for a couple of reasons. Namely, Kana Hanazawa is awesome in her role, and it’s unusually frank and mature about the erotic subject matter. I’ll be checking out episode 2 as soon as possible!

⚫ Yosuga no Sora BD 4 is out, dealing with the Sora arc, which was obviously the best part of the whole series! Akiba blog did a post with some screencaps of the uncensored Sora ero here.

⚫ Although everything seemed to be pointing to Nico Nico airing Madoka Magica 11 tonight, Gen Urobochi posted just earlier today on twitter that he isn;t sure when we’ll be able to see the new episode. Up until those posts in twitter he had also thought Nico Nico was airing the episode. Such a shame! (source)

⚫ Shounen Jump is offering this year’s 15th volume for free via online distribution! This is likely a special offer to raise awareness of their online distribution and get people using it. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a lot of publishers and magazines start to make a transition to online content soon, particularly ones who have to fear the new regulations. (source)

⚫ Hatsune Miku will be appearing in Playboy! A multi-page, full-colour gravure idol spread will show up in the next issue. At least, in the Japanese version.. (source)

⚫ The next new Gundam work will apparently be about the business of managing a space elevator (pictured below). This is according to director Tomino Yoshiyuki.

⚫ Apparently some of Beelzebub is being considered as unsuitable for airing after the Earthquake. The aspect named was the establishment of the baby demon-king who wants to destroy the world. I’m not familiar with Beelzebub so I don’t know if there’s a particular arc that’s particularly heavy on the mass destruction, but to me this sounded like the very aspect of that character needs to be toned down. And it seems like that is a fairly fundamental part of the story. It could just mean editing out scenes of destruction. Either way, we should remember it is a sunday morning program watched by children.

  1. The thing with Beelzebub reminds me of what happened with X/1999, which was also troubled by real world earthquakes, given how earthquakes played a pretty big role in the manga itself. This doesnt’ seem as direct as that, but I think we’re all aware of how cataclysmic the recent disaster has been. Given the timeslot and intended demographic, holding back for a while is a pretty understandable decision. I’d be curious to know how it would effect Pierrot+ financially, because of the cost of purchasing a timeslot.

    1. Oh yeah I forgot about X! Japanese TV is very prompt at stopping things from airing after certain events. And this is certainly a major event. Shame we didn’t get anything like Nice Boat out of this one, although that in itself would be a little insensitive given the tsunami!

    1. Tomino did Ring of Gundam fairly recently. I think he’s willing to do the occassional special. I’m not sure if it’s been made clear what this new work will actually be.

      1. Oh, well, I think a special is a plausible option for him. I was hearing something about the new Gundam work being another TV series, so I didn’t think of Tomino straight away. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
