Daily Intake 04.02.11

⚫ Anime Announcement: TV-anime adaptation of ‘Sengoku Shoujou ~Momoiro Paradox~’ (apparently a pachinko game) will be a late-night anime starting on the 4th of April. Website. The director is Hideki Okamoto (Nagasarete Island and Da Capo) and the character designer/overall animation director is Koji Yamakawa. I don’t see this heading for anything other than mediocrity.

There’s a bit of discussion about the similarity between Ui’s new character song ‘Shiny GEMS‘ and Green Day’s ‘Minority‘! View the two songs and hear for yourself. Personally, I think there is a pretty big similarity, but not enough to even border on plagiarism. I just find it amusing that a Ui song is being compared with a Green Day song! Possibly the biggest trait the two songs share is being terrible.

⚫ The new ratings for the noitaminA timeslot are in and it seems it may have bounced back out of trouble! This week’s ratings for the hour-long timeslot, including both Fractale and Horou Musuko were 2.1%. This is good news, but as many have pointed out, it doesn’t really tell us how successful either anime are. I mean, Fractale might be 4.2% and Horou Musuko might be 0%!! I think Fractale almost certainly has higher ratings.

⚫ Anime Announcement: Katte ni Kaizora (gag manga) is getting an anime OVA adaptation! #1 The cast was also revealed:

    Kaizou: Sakurai Takahiro (Kaizou),
    Umi: Kitamura Eri,
    Chitan: Saitou Chiwa,
    Suzu: Toyosaki Aki

Sounds like a nice cast – especially Chiwa Saitou~

⚫ On twitter Gen Urobochi (writer for Madoka Magica) clarified that the bit of pulp/gore that landed on the table after Homura killed the witch, Charlotte was in fact a bit of the witch, not Mami’s remnants as many people were speculating! To prove it, he even posted a photo of the storyboard for that cut which decribes that it’s a piece of the witch. The think I noticed most was that the storyboards were very rough indeed! I mean, wow, can Yoshiharu Ashino not draw at all?

⚫ A photo of drawings that were discussed at a recent Gainax meeting imply that the possibility of a Houkago no Pleiades continuation is now a likelihood! #1

⚫ The weekly Blu-ray sales charts are in. As I expected, Index II sold more than Star Driver (in fact Index II sold surprisingly well). But Star Driver still sold a healthy amount, more than FMA:Brotherhood did, which BONES had in this timeslot previously. Some highlights of the charts:

OreImo: 17,238
Index II: 12,721
Strike Witches II: 9,377
Star Driver: 7,321
Ika Musume: 6,191
Yosuga no Sora: 6,191
.hack//Quantum: 3,374

⚫ The anime that were going to be featured at this year’s TAF for the TV-station TBS have since vanished from the program. After being announced on the first of this month, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko and Amagami SS disappeared off the program the following day. And on the third, Yumekui Merry, Keion and Soredemo Matteteiru disappeared, leaving no anime left listed for them. Good job! source

⚫ News: Paper: YouTube Views Appear to Raise TV Anime DVD Sales link. This pretty much confirms what I’ve been ranting about for a long time.

⚫ So the people who broke into the Keion school and stole guitars and merchandise have been arrested! Great news! Justice shall pervail. link

⚫ A new post on Ameblo contains lots of appetising photos of upcoming GSC merchandise in preparation for showing at this year’s imminent Wonderfest. Panty & Stocking, Madoka, Nadia, Toradora nendoroids and a Nessa PVC in the works! I fear for my wallet.

⚫ Check out these Sora no Otoshimono Oppai mugs link

⚫ The Madoka Magica OP single by ClariS was recently released and today reached 8th in the CD charts. source

⚫ Hearcatch Precure fans (the otaku side of the demographic) are scary! see for yourself

⚫ Because it was my birthday today (yayyy!!), I didn’t have a chance to watch any anime. I’m not behind on every series! On the upside, I got to play some Weiss Schwarz games with comrades. My Railgun/Index deck still does really well! I also got a new camera and a bit of loot I’ve been waiting for for ages (due to various circumstances!). So I took some photos, below!

  1. Well, you really don’t need to be able to draw reasonably for a storyboard. From what I’ve seen only Satoshi Kon draws storyboards very cleanly and clearly, with a lot of details making them look like actual lay-outs. There are directors who can’t draw, though, like Takahata and Oshii…

    1. It’s unusual for the drawings to be this bad. I’ve quite a lot of storyboards for TV-anime, and this is pretty rough. Usually directors can draw reasonably well. It could be that it was slightly rushed being the third storyboard he did in a row~

      1. True, but still, storyboards drawn like that are much more the norm, I think–after all, if it serves the purpose of conveying what the cut should look like basically, then it’s done its job. Satoshi Kon was rare, but it was because he was a manga artist and actual illustrator before entering animation.

  2. I rarely leave a response, however i did some searching and
