Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii wake ga nai! Episode 7
Once again, I really enjoyed this episode of OreImo! I think it may have been lacking a certain spark that other episodes have had, but it was still good fun. Well, I expected this to be an interesting entry into the series, because I’d read spoilers from the novel (thanks to Seanver’s blog!), so I knew what would be going down between Kuroneko and Kirino! Any time you get those two together, there’s bound to be some clash of otaku wills, but this time it got a little more personal when they read each other’s creations. Kuroneko read Kirino’s “novel” and Kirino read her doujinshi. Of course, they hated their friend’s work, but the shocking twist is that in their respective creations they each depicted the other in some terrible fate: A Kirino-replica was a sex slave in Kuroneko’s doujinshi and Kuroneko cameo in Kirino’s story involved both rape and death! Wow, these girls have such perverse minds at such a young age. Kirino’s father would murder her if he knew the full extent of what goes on in his daughter’s mind! But this is the dangerous (and glorious) world of otaku we live in! In a creepy-otaku kind of way you could take these insertions as a compliment! It’s not like Kirino and Kuroneko won’t be suffering similar depravity in real doujinshi anyway! Their fight was funny and awkward, especially the way Kyousuke was caught between them.
The Meruru screening that followed was entertaining! Anime fans forcing each other to watch anime is something we’ve probably all experienced, which made it pretty funny. I love how Saori joined in via a phone presence! One good thing to come from it is we actually got to see some Meruru. Anime takes any opportunity it can get to throw in some magical girl parody scenes, but Meruru was such a good parody you could easily mistake it for a real anime! It’s an action mahou shoujo with themes of friendship and naked loli transformation sequences.. remind you of anything? Nanoha, of course. Or at least that’s what everyone’s been muttering. To me, it looks like a mixture of Precure and Nanoha! (and I guess Kuroneko’s anime would be Darker than Black + Code Geass). Anyway, with henshin sequences like that, it’s my kind of anime!
The second half of the episode deals with Kirino’s novel, as she recruits her brother to go out and do research with her. I find the fact that she got an offer to be published pretty amazing! It must be so easy to get into the industry these days.. Her stories basically involve her going to some area (a planet or a city) which is implausibly overrun with little sisters and then doing awesome (eroge-ish) stuff with them! That’s my Kiririn! She wasn’t kidding when she said she just writes what she loves. But her outing with Kyousuke didn’t turn out to be much fun (although I did sense a bit of tension/chemistry between them when they were in the hotel room and Kirino came out of the shower). I don’t like Kirino so much when she’s being too selfish with Kyousuke, making him buy stuff for her..
Overall, a fun episode though!
